Yesterday was a great day to wait for baby...our first winter storm of the year. We made sure that our midwives had 4-wheel drive vehicles to get to us if they needed to. We thought maybe with the drop in temperature, the baby might want to drop into the world:) Greeley was like a fairy tale land with all the frosted trees. Unfortunately, many people lost power for more than 24hrs. Many also lost their beautiful trees due to the weight of the heavy snow causing a break of their branches. But nevertheless, it was an ideal day to stay inside and nest.
It reminded us of our adventure exactly two years ago this weekend, when we drove from Kansas to CO to secure our pastorate at Family of Christ. I was so excited to start our new chapter in life! We planned to leave a few days early to explore the sights of the front range, our soon-to-be new home. I had saved a proof-of-purchase code from a tea box and mailed it in for a stay one night-get one night free coupon at a B&B in Fort Collins, CO.
All was set to go- except optimal weather. I was glued to the weather channel and thought we still could make the trip..."We have a window...let's leave now and drive through the night!" Thankfully, ever safe and practical hubby reminded me of what we might look like stuck in a snowdrift along a desolate storm swept western Kansas highway in a car with 200,000 miles on it. We didn't really have a window (I am so thankful for Nate's wisdom...usually in hindsight!). Instead, we drove out two days later once the roads had cleared.
It turned out to be a fabulous trip that signaled the 'official' start of our life together in Colorado. It is amazing to imagine that here we are two years later awaiting a baby to signal the 'official' start of another new adventure.
Till then, we will play in the snow.
