Nate and I successfully took most of a day off (I did make a few mid morning phone calls and emails to church people) but then we headed off to sight-see Boulder for the day. A great thing about living in northern Colorado is that we are about an hour-ish from just about wherever we seem to want to go. Mountains, rivers, lakes, good eats, college town atmosphere, coffee shops & antique stores, great parks, etc. If we can't find it all in Greeley, we can find it within an hour, which makes for a nice day-off road trip.
Boulder is a college town, home to the University of Colorado. My first learning of the day was to leave Javy home next time. He was already overheated before we left Greeley (we had to make a 10 minute stop at the credit union and though we had the windows down...Javy was already hot and ansy by the time we deposite our checks). Though Boulder is a very progressive, green, dog friendly city, the main shopping street that is blocked off for pedestrian trafffic posts the dreaded sign 'no dogs allowed'. This also meant we didn't have quite the freedom to go into the stores we wanted and we had to eat street food outside. But, we did walk through a lovely neighborhood of mostly old victorian and bungalow homes.
After Boulder we took the long way home, driving into the mountains along the St. Vrain river, reaching over 9,000 ft. At a pit stop in the small town of Lyons, Javy nipped at a tow-truck driver's ankles who was loading up a near-by vehicle. I was mortified because I think he actually bit him...but the man was also slightly dramatic about it, so who knows. Good grief...he was a little pesty all day.
But now we are spending the evening at home after our mini adventure. Javy is socked out on the coach while Nate is drying mango in our new dehydrator (a recent thrift store find). We have that good tired-out feeling rather than the exhausted because of stress feeling. The crickets are chirping with the warm breeze and all is well in our little nest.
loves,
jenn
